Lingual Braces in Dublin: My ESLO Titular Membership and What It Means for Patients

2 October 2026

By Dr Erfan Salloum, Board Certified Specialist Orthodontist and Founder of Lusk Orthodontics

In June 2026, I successfully passed the Titular Membership examination of the European Society of Lingual Orthodontics (ESLO). This assessment involved presenting completed cases treated with lingual braces for evaluation by experienced colleagues in this field.

To my knowledge, as of October 2026, I am the only orthodontist practising in Ireland to have achieved this distinction.

For patients considering lingual braces in Dublin or elsewhere in Ireland, this achievement has a practical meaning: my clinical work in this demanding area of orthodontics has undergone independent peer assessment.

What is ESLO Titular Membership?

The European Society of Lingual Orthodontics is a professional society dedicated to orthodontic treatment using braces fitted behind the teeth.

Titular Membership is an assessed professional distinction. Candidates present documented clinical work for examination, allowing their treatment approach and completed results to be scrutinised by experienced lingual orthodontists.

For me, the significance lies in that scrutiny. The cases I presented came from my own clinical practice and demonstrated the treatment I provide for my patients.

This achievement builds on my earlier ESLO Active Membership in 2024 and Active Membership of the World Society of Lingual Orthodontics (WSLO) in 2025. Together, these assessments reflect my ongoing commitment to developing and independently evaluating my skills in lingual orthodontics.

What are lingual braces?

Lingual braces are fixed braces attached to the inner surfaces of the teeth, facing the tongue. Because they sit behind the teeth, they are largely hidden during everyday conversation and smiling.

Patients searching for “invisible braces” or “invisible orthodontics in Ireland” often encounter clear aligners first. Lingual braces offer another discreet option: fixed orthodontic treatment without brackets on the front of the teeth.

I provide customised WIN lingual braces, and in Ireland, I am recognised by WIN as number one provider based on number annual cases treated with lingual orthodontics.

Why does experience in lingual orthodontics matter?

Treating teeth from their inner surfaces requires specific training, careful planning and familiarity with lingual appliance mechanics.

An orthodontist needs to consider how the teeth will move, how their roots will be controlled, how the bite will fit together and how the final result will be maintained. The appearance of the smile is one part of that wider treatment plan.

My Titular Membership provides patients with an additional reason for confidence when considering treatment: experienced peers have evaluated examples of my completed lingual work. It complements my specialist orthodontic training and Master’s degree in Lingual Orthodontics.

Every patient’s starting point is different, and no qualification guarantees an individual outcome. My responsibility is to explain what is achievable in your case and recommend an approach suited to your needs.

Why choose Dr Erfan Salloum for your lingual braces treatment?

For patients seeking discreet orthodontic treatment in Dublin, my approach combines specialist assessment, focused lingual training and independently examined clinical experience.

At your consultation, we consider your teeth, bite, oral health and treatment goals together. We then discuss whether lingual braces, clear aligners or another option offers the most appropriate approach.

Lingual braces form an established part of my clinical practice, including the management of more demanding alignment and bite problems. Where treatment requires additional procedures or input from another specialist, I explain those requirements from the outset.

In my private practice at Lusk Orthodontics in North Dublin, adult treatment is also provided in a private room, separate from the space used for children and adolescents. This supports a more private experience for adults fitting orthodontic care around their working and personal lives.

Are lingual braces right for you?

Lingual braces may appeal to patients who want their teeth straightened discreetly and prefer a fixed appliance. Suitability depends on your individual bite, dental health and treatment requirements.

There are practical considerations too. Patients may initially experience tongue irritation or changes in speech, and cleaning around the appliance takes care and practice. We discuss these points alongside treatment duration, fees and retention before you decide.

My aim is to help you understand both the possibilities and the commitments involved.

Considering invisible orthodontics in Dublin?

Achieving ESLO Titular Membership is a professional milestone I am proud of because it reflects the clinical work behind the treatment I offer.

If you are considering lingual braces in Ireland, a consultation with me is an opportunity to explore whether this approach suits your smile, bite and lifestyle.
